With lap swimming, open and family swim times, water exercise classes, swim lessons, Gators swim team, and more, the YMCA provides an enjoyable outlet of aquatic fun and fitness for the entire family! The Fercho YMCA also offers programs, services and equipment for those with special needs.
Spare your joints and get an impactful cardiovascular workout by lap swimming! It’s a great full-body workout, elevating your heart rate and burning calories. We provide equipment to help vary the challenge and make lap swimming more enjoyable, like kickboards, pull buoys, fins, and more. YMCA Lap Swimming is for ages 15+. Youth under the age of 15 can lap swim by proving they can adequately swim laps and share a lane with other adults. This is up to the lifeguards discretion.
Lap Swim Foundations
New to lap swim? Our Aquatics staff will show you where the lap swim equipment is stored and how to use it! You’ll also learn how to share lanes and some swimming basics to get you started on a lap swim workout. FREE for members! No registration required – just show up!

50 & 300 Mile Swim Challenges
Members may swim 50 or 300 miles in the pool and earn a t-shirt for reaching each target! Swimming must be done at the Fercho YMCA, in the Large Lap Pool. Record your miles as you go and see how far you can make it! Go at any pace and join whenever you want! Please notify an aquatics staff member once you’ve reached a target. Swim Challenges are for ages 15+.
Adult Swimming Lessons help participants progress at their own pace. Whether it is overcoming fear and anxiety about the water, developing basic water skills or working on endurance and efficiency, this is a great class for all levels!

Adult Swim Training
Adult Swim Training is designed for triathletes or anyone wanting a challenging swim workout! This class combines interval swimming and other in-water exercises with dry-land, body weight exercises for a full-body workout. A coach will help you improve your technique and reach your swimming goals. All levels welcome – and exercises are adaptable if you prefer not to exit the water!
Due to COVID-19, Adult Swim Training is available by reservation only, just for members! Training sessions are limited to six participants per day. You must create a login to sign up. Reservations are available starting six days before each session until one hour prior to class. If the class is full, you may put yourself on the waiting list and you will be notified prior to class via email if a spot opens up. If you need to cancel a reservation, instructions may be found online.

Water Group Fitness Classes
Group Fitness Classes in the water are great for those trying to improve their cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and range of motion through continuous resistance and limited impact. Our varying levels of class difficulty and routines will provide opportunities for you to get an intense, interval-style workout, or simply stretch your muscles. YMCA Group Fitness Classes are for ages 15+. Youth ages 12-14 can earn access into Group Fitness Classes within arms-length of a parent/guardian, or unsupervised after completing the Y’s Youth Exercise Concepts Course, which consists of a one-hour session with a fitness associate.

Join us to learn everything you’ll need to know to jump into a Water Exercise class! You’ll learn what to expect from a class, where equipment is stored, some basics, and more!
We want everyone to be able to safely enjoy the pleasures of an aquatic environment! Our Lap Pool and Small Warm Water Pool include chair lifts for easy access into the pools. Additionally, our Small Warm Water Pool is kept at 87° - a temperature that is ideal for therapy.
The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties offers Red Cross safety education courses. Lifeguard and Babysitting Trainings allow participants to learn life-saving skills and become certified for fun and rewarding jobs. YMCA aquatics staff even have the ability to work year-round! The YMCA also offers CPR/AED classes for adult, child, and infant certifications as well as first aid. Attendance at all class times listed is mandatory.
