Singing in the Rain movie image

Happy March. Looking forward to better weather, especially as we are in single digits today.

Do you remember the movie, Singin' in the Rain?

One of the things that my parents did for me growing up was introduce me to older shows, movies, and plays. I can remember going to see musical theater as a child. One of those movies was Singin' in the Rain.

There is a great song in it, "Good Morning".  That song pops into my head regularly for some reason, it’s that catchy. Here’s a clip if you haven’t seen it:

This song also reminds me of the Y. This morning especially.

My office sits in the front lobby of one of our branches. Each morning I hear our Member Services Staff wish people good morning. Recently, though, we moved some of our child care classrooms around and now the baby room is on the other side of the lobby from me. This morning, the happiest staff person we have was the teacher welcoming the parents and babies to class. Each one started with an enthusiastic, “GOOD MORNING!”  Right away my brain went straight back to those warm and fuzzy thoughts of yesteryear and Singin' in the Rain.  My brain, and thankfully not my mouth (those of you who used to listen to me sing songs for babies in pools, I apologize again!), started to sing, “Good Morning, Good Morning……” (Seriously, have you watched the clip yet?)

Am I going soft? No. Am I thinking about better days? No. Am I more connected to the Y and its mission? Absolutely!

Each day, when we wish our members and children good morning, it starts their day knowing that we are in community with them. That no matter how this day is going to go, we are here with them and we want what is best for them.  It doesn’t matter who you are, we are on the pathway with you. Seniors, babies, moms and dads, the homeless and housed, and many many others. You matter at the Y!

So once again…

Good morning, good morning……

See you at the Y!
