YMCA Annual Report

Executive Director's Message

The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties is proud to share our 2009 Annual Report to the Community. Please take time to review the positive impact your YMCA had on our service area.

The impact of our YMCA is seen through our mission and services. We have had a community presence since 1886 and currently we operate two recreational facilities, 20 child care sites and an 80 acre resident camp. Our child care program serves over 1,500 children and Camp Cormorant had a record year in 2009 serving 944 youth.

Through support from grants, United Way and our Partner of Youth Campaign, we provide over one million dollars in financial support to insure no one is turned away from YMCA programs and services. This past year, our YMCA was one of 20 YMCAs in the country to receive the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG™ grant. Our staff have been trained to work with individuals dealing with cancer and a new free fitness
program for cancer survivors and supporters has been started.

A real highlight this past year was the naming of the Downtown YMCA facility after Dr. Calvin and Dodee Fercho. The Ferchos have been long time supporters of our YMCA having donated the “Y” on Broadway building to the YMCA in 1989. Most recently, they designated a significant gift to the YMCA Endowment Fund to provide scholarships to youth. Our annual Heritage Dinner this past fall provided an ideal setting to name the Downtown YMCA the Fercho Family YMCA. We sincerely thank the Fercho family for their generous gift.

Our success this past year and in future years would not be possible
without the work and support of dedicated staff and volunteers. Thank you to over 500 staff and 150 policy volunteers.
Thank you for being part of our YMCA. We look forward to another banner year in 2010.
